A fascination with flora

Maura has always had a fascination with flora and plant life and a particular interest in endemic (native) species and their movement from their original locations to their cultivation worldwide. Growing up in Tasmania and having a family history with strong links to plant cultivation and breeding, she ran her own gardens and allotments with a passion.

Oxford Botanic Garden & Arboretum Florilegium Group

The Oxford Botanic Garden and Harcourt Arboretum Florilegium group was founded in 2012 by Rosemary Wise and Barbara Mclean, both world renowned botanical illustrators. The object of the group is to produce botanical illustrations, either line drawings or paintings, of a high standard, for archival purposes. These illustrations currently document the living collections at the Garden and Arboretum, providing us with an invaluable resource for the future. Each illustration is fully comprehensive, showing flowers, fruits and enlargements and dissections where necessary. The Florilegium group is administered in conjunction with Oxford University Plant Sciences and the original paintings and drawings are archived within the Herbarium forming part of a continuous history of plant recording through botanical illustration.

Original work held by Oxford University Herbarium.
